How Electric Dog Fences Work

Dog playing with ball in yard

Dog Guard Out of Sight Fencing utilizes a digital radio signal to keep your dog within selected boundaries. By placing a thin wire underground, our professional team creates the safety perimeter we design together.

A comfortable collar containing a small receiver is worn around your dog’s neck. This receiver works with the radio signal, which emits an appropriate stimulus level as your dog approaches the barrier. If your dog continues to advance, a second field produces maximum correction to prevent escape.

Because each installation is customized, you define the boundaries. We will work with you to protect your pet from driveways, pools, and other dangerous areas. Our system can also protect your flower beds, shrubs or other areas from your playful pet.

Dog Guard Out of Sight Fencing is a safe, affordable alternative to traditional pet fences, and uses a veterinarian-approved combination of animal training and state-of-the art electronics to safely train your pet where it can and cannot go.

Training

Once the installation is complete, your installer will mark off the boundary with flags, creating a visible boundary line for the pet. Once the flags are up, training will begin. Our installers will have your pet off leash and staying in the yard within an hour in almost all circumstances. We’ve never had a dog we couldn’t contain! For the next week we advise supervised playtime with your pet, outside in the yard, several times a day. When spending time with your dog outside, it’s important to include lots of petting, play, and praise. By using this technique, the dog will quickly learn where the boundary is, how much of the yard they have access to, and as they become familiar with the visible boundary the flags can be removed. We recommend removing half of the flags at the end of the first week, another half at the end of the second week, and the rest can be removed by the end of the third week. After your system is activated, when your pet enters the reminder zone (3 to 6 feet from the signal wire) they receive your choice of a mild to medium correction stimulus and tone, warning that they are approaching the boundary. If they continue into the field, they will receive a full strength correction stimulus to ensure they stay safe and at home.

Our highly trained pet behavior specialists will work with you and your pet throughout the initial process to make sure training techniques and boundaries are clearly defined.
